General Statement of Duties

Performs a wide array of administrative duties in support of attorneys and legal processes, transactions, litigation and other activities handled in the County Attorney's Office; cross-trains and provides back-up support as needed; may provide support and assistance to paralegal staff as assigned; performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties
The Henrico County Attorney's Office seeks to hire a full-time legal assistant with outstanding organizational and administrative skills to assist attorneys who provide a broad range of legal services to the County and to Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS). Responsibilities include administrative and secretarial support for the office's school law practice group. A successful applicant must demonstrate accuracy, tact, and attention to detail; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with attorneys, paralegals, court personnel, citizens, and school employees; ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a team-based environment.
Essential Duties:
•Organizing and maintaining electronic legal files; finalizing correspondence and court filings; organizing electronic and paper records; processing documents for signature; and managing shared electronic data.
•Conserving attorney time by reading, researching, and routing correspondence; drafting letters and documents; collecting and analyzing information; and proofreading documents.
•Answering phones and referring callers to appropriate resource; scheduling appointments; and coordinating meetings.
•Making travel arrangements and completing travel expense vouchers.
•Maintaining confidences and protecting operations by keeping information confidential.
•Maintaining and updating shared calendar for the practice group.
•Coordinating the ordering of supplies and maintaining supply inventory.
•Proactively identifying practice group needs.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma with studies, legal training or program coursework with a relevant legal focus preferred and two (2) years of relevant experience as a legal assistant, preferably supporting attorneys; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.

Prior experience in a legal office is preferred.
This position will work in the HCPS Central Office located in the Eastern Government Center at 3820 Nine Mile Road.
