Organization Summary

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) is a state government authority that promotes economic development and growth across the Commonwealth. VEDP serves businesses, state policymakers, and the Governor’s administration by providing project coordination, marketing and communication, incentives and grants, research, and strategic insights to support economic growth.

This internship is part of VEDP’s International Trade Division, which is recognized as the leading state international trade development program in the U.S. The International Trade Division provides a range of resources such as customized market research, international business meetings, training on international trade, and programs to help Virginia companies grow their international sales. Position Summary

VEDP is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented International Trade Intern during the summer of 2025 (10 weeks). This energetic, self-starting individual is seeking on-the-job experience in international trade research and will complete a variety of projects to support the development of innovative training programs for Virginia businesses. The ideal candidate will be passionate about market research, eager to explore international markets, and enthusiastic about creating impactful learning experiences related to international business.

Duties:

  • Conduct market research and write reports on a variety of industries and geographies to help Virginia businesses understand international markets
  • Explore innovative training methods and platforms, benchmarking other organizations' approaches to enhance training and event strategies
  • Draft and edit market research reports, marketing materials, and internal and external correspondence
  • Attend weekly educational courses provided by VEDP focused on professional development and international trade
  • Perform other tasks for the International Trade team

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Interest in global business, international relations, market research, marketing, and learning design
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills
  • Effective time management and problem-solving capabilities
  • Creative thinker with a passion for innovation and continuous learning
  • Software skills using Microsoft Office – primarily PowerPoint and Word
  • Familiarity with virtual event platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams) is a plus

Qualifications Preferred:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in social science (economics, public policy, or political science), international business, or a related field is preferred

This is a full-time, hybrid position. The International Trade Intern will be based in VEDP’s office in Richmond, Virginia at least three days each week and has the option to telework up to two days each week according to VEDP’s hybrid work policy.
