Duties Description The OPRHP Niagara Region Environmental Team is seeking a highly motivated individual to assist in regional environmental stewardship activities under the supervision of the Biologist. The position will work closely with the Biologist on supporting projects that involve the protection of rare, threatened, and endangered species and natural communities on park land. Duties include, but are not limited to:
•Writing reports and analyzing data.
•Creating project maps.
•Field work such as manual removal of non-native plants, installation of native plants, and surveying land.
•Assisting in providing guidance and support to other field staff and volunteers.
•Conducting trainings for regional staff.
•Organizing and participating in education and outreach events.
•Working independently as well as in a team setting.
Additional Comments PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•A degree or one year of experience in forestry, environmental studies, ecology, natural resources management, or a relevant discipline, such as aquatic ecology, conservation biology, etc.
•Excellent organization skills both in a field and/or office setting.
•Knowledge of New York native or non-native flora/fauna.
•A working knowledge of GPS/GIS and ecological monitoring methods.
OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
•Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
•Applicants must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
