Dance Specialist Welcome to your job description! Camp Carmel Creek is a program of The San Diego Jewish Academy. We create summer adventures filled with joy, growth, curiosity and intention through a unique model combining classic day-camp, the focus of a specialty camp, and the connection of a sleepaway camp. Dance Instructor Responsibilities & Qualifications Responsibilities Plan and lead fun, energetic dance classes for campers in kindergarten through 6th grade, teaching a variety of dance styles such as jazz, hip-hop, ballet, and creative movement. Create a positive and encouraging environment where campers feel confident expressing themselves through movement. Develop age-appropriate choreography for performances, camp-wide events, and theme days. Adapt lessons to accommodate different skill levels, ensuring all campers feel included and challenged. Emphasize proper warm-up, stretching, and injury prevention techniques to promote safety and physical well-being. Maintain and organize music, props, and any necessary dance equipment. Participate in staff training before camp begins to align on instructional methods, safety protocols, and camp spirit. Assist with setup and cleanup of the dance space before, during, and after the camp season. Ensure the safety and well-being of campers by maintaining close supervision, offering individual guidance, and fostering a supportive and team-oriented atmosphere. Qualifications Experience teaching dance to children, preferably in a camp, school, or studio setting. Strong knowledge of various dance styles and ability to create age-appropriate choreography. Ability to adapt lessons for different skill levels and provide positive reinforcement. Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with camp staff. Background in performing arts, dance education, or a related field (preferred). Leadership: AAs an activity specialist you are responsible for your own group of campers. You support them, you guide them, you mentor and coach them, you are there to give them the best summer ever. Communication: Good communication between you and your campers, between you and your supervisor, between you and your co-workers, is essential to a successful day at camp. Organization: Following the schedule, getting to activities on time, being creative, and planning programs for your campers on a daily basis. Problem Solving: Good problem-solvers are adaptable, resilient, collaborative, and open-minded. A camp day presents many opportunities to flex these muscles. Teamwork: Camp is not about the individual. Success is not defined by what you do alone, it's about what we do as a team. Learning to work together and rely on each other to achieve our goals is what's most important. Term Of employment Date: (June 16th - August 8nd, Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 3:30 pm) 4 staff training dates prior to June 16th. (30-40 hours of online and in person paid training prior to the start of camp) Salary Range: $22-$30 per hour. Our pay scale is based on level of schooling and experience.
